The Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine provides patient care at the Sam S. and Rose Stein Emergency Care Center (ECC) at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego and three urgent care centers. The ECC is the only emergency care center in the San Diego region solely dedicated to caring for children. It is also the only Level 1 pediatric trauma center in San Diego County. Our emergency department specializes in pediatric trauma care, pediatric sedation, orthopedic care, special needs children care, and stabilization and treatment of acutely ill children.

Division Chief

Education is one of our core missions. We train Pediatric, Emergency Medicine, and Family Medicine residents from San Diego and from all over the country in the recognition and stabilization of sick and injured children. Fourth-year medical students from UCSD rotate with us. Christiana Rajasingham, MD, is our division coordinator. We provide bedside teaching and instruction in basic procedures such as suturing or lumbar punctures with 40 hours of direct attending coverage a day. We offer a four-year UCSD medical student rotation that is one of the most popular selections among students interested in pediatrics or emergency medicine.
