Fellow Education

The Division of Pediatric Respiratory Medicine Faculty take a special interest in training fellows to have experience in all areas of pediatric respiratory medicine. In addition to teaching while fellows are engaged in clinical rotations, didactic sessions provide more formal training in various aspects of Pediatric Pulmonology.

Pulmonary Fellowship Teaching Conferences:
“Walk” Rounds –  Topics are covered weekly via informal case presentations; lectures on pulmonary topics by faculty, trainees, and guest speakers; journal clubs; and M&M.
Lung Club – Our physiology conference – a fellow is assigned a chapter out of the West textbook to teach to co-fellows and faculty.

Western States Pediatric Pulmonary Case Conference – Web-based case conference amongst western pediatric pulmonary centers. The conference is “headquartered” by our division.
Radiology / Pathology Conference – A monthly multi-disciplinary meeting to review clinical cases with pulmonologists, radiologists, and pathologists.
Divisional Research Conference – Monthly meeting to review research projects within the division, explore new grant opportunities and learn more about clinical and translational research.
Pediatric Fellow Research Seminar Series – Opportunity for fellows to present research proposals and results to peers and faculty.
Education Courses:
Enquiry Program – Fellows are required to attend this course. Provides training and participation in quality improvement projects geared specifically for pediatric residents and fellows.
Pediatric Flexible Bronchoscopy Course (Cincinnati Children’s Hospital)- optional course providing comprehensive introduction to pediatric bronchoscopy
CREST (Clinical Research Enhancement through Supplemental Training) – optional courses offered through UCSD to enhance training in clinical research.
