Welcome to the Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship Program at the Division of Neonatology at UC San Diego

Program Description

Our Neonatal-Perinatal fellowship program offers trainees the opportunity to serve patients and families at the largest children's hospital in California and the only academic high-risk delivery hospitals in San Diego County committed to training the next generation of neonatologists. Fellows learn to care for a diverse patient population with both border and indigent health issues in both level III and IV NICUs. The University of California San Diego is one of the largest training programs in California with one of the top medical research centers in the country. Our fellows engage in meaningful scholarly work ranging from quality improvement to clinical, translational, basic science, and educational research. We provide high quality education and training with 70% of our graduates pursing academic neonatology for the past 12 years.

Mission

To educate leaders of the future to independently deliver compassionate and high quality neonatal intensive care, learn through research to improve the field of neonatology, and be teachers for generations to come.

Aims

Graduates of the program will:

  1. Clinical: Possess the knowledge, skills, and behaviors to enter autonomous practice in any clinical environment
  2. Research: Develop academic and research capabilities to advance the field of neonatology
  3. Teaching: Foster psychologically safe and inclusive learning environments as effective leaders and teachers
  4. Service: Cultivate lifelong learning behaviors and self-reflection necessary to serve a diverse patient population with high quality and compassionate care
