Host-Pathogen Interaction and Vaccine Development

The primary aim of the George Liu Lab is to understand how Gram-positive pathogens, including S. aureus and C. acnes interact with the host immune system and leads to a productive infection. From the bacterial side, we strive to identify novel immune evasion mechanisms that facilitate bacterial invasion of the host. Conversely, we also study host antimicrobial mechanisms that keep pathogens infection in check. Ultimately, based on knowledge of host and S. aureus defense mechanisms, we seek to develop novel immunotherapeutic approaches to treat infections and reduce antibiotic resistance.
