Salary and Benefits

Salary

Salaries are competitive and are set by the Office of Graduate Medical Education. Please see the GME website for the breakdown of trainee salaries by year and description of benefits. Residents and fellows are represented by the San Diego House Staff Association, a housestaff-led labor union, which negotiates trainee salaries with the University.

Benefits

Health and dental insurance are provided, along with disability insurance. Fellows receive 4 weeks of paid vacation and 12 days of paid sick leave. Information on these benefits can be fonud on the GME website.

Other Support

UCSD pediatric hematology oncology fellowship supports all of our fellows to attend at least one conference per year. If a fellow has a presentation or abstract accepted to an additional conference, the Department of Pediatrics or our Division of Pediatric Hematology Oncology has means to fund the fellow to attend additional conferences. Our first year fellows protected from call during the annual ASPHO meeting to allow for their attendance. The American Society of Hematology (ASH) annual meeting is often held in San Diego. When in San Diego we support all our fellows attending ASH in addition to their conference of choice.
