Martin Stein, MD, FAAP


Dr. Martin Stein is a Professor Emeritus in the Division of Academic General Pediatrics, Child Development, and Community Health.  He has worked to develop methods that primary care pediatricians can use to adapt the knowledge and skills of developmental and behavioral pediatricians into their daily practice.  Dr. Stein edited the American Academy of Pediatrics' Guidelines for Health Supervision III, co-chaired the committee that developed the AAP’s practice guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder, and is co-author of the textbook Encounters with Children: Pediatric Behavior and Development. He served on the editorial board of the NEJM Journal Watch Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine from its inception until January 2017 and is the section editor for the Challenging Cases feature in the Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. Dr. Stein continues to teach fellows and residents at UC San Diego in various capacities including as the moderator of Professor Rounds and the facilitator of challenging case discussions.
