Weekly and Monthly Conference

The staff, trainees, and faculty meet twice a week to engage in the various seminars listed and described below:

Journal Club : This conference reviews the current literature for updates on clinical treatment algorithms and research topics relevant to the field of pediatrics gastroenterology. Trainees present articles in conjunction with a faculty member and articles are critically evaluated. This forum stimulates open discussion of current treatment modalities and research progress.

Research Conference : Our faculty members are engaged in a wide variety of clinical and basic science research. In this forum, current advances in research can be shared and ideas exchanged.

Evidenced-Based Case Evaluations : This is a forum for faculty, fellows, and housestaff to discuss the current care of challenging cases and literature relevant to care. Review of current literature and protocols will be discussed.

Pathology Rounds : Occurs bimonthly. This conference reviews current pathology on patients, discusses challenging diagnostic issues, and reviews relevant new literature. Separate quarterly sessions are also set aside for fellows and housestaff by the Pathology Faculty for board review.

Morbidity and Mortality : This forum provides opportunities to review problems and challenges which may arise from clinical care of GI patients. Sessions are also used to review protocols and procedures, important in maintaining high quality patient care and management.

Pediatric Post-doctoral Fellow Research Conference: Occurs bimonthly. This conference allows fellows in different subspecialties to network with one another and practice presentation skills. Academic development lectures are given by faculty in topics such as manuscript writing, building an academic career, and mentorship.

In addition, there are scheduled seminars and didactic sessions directed at the fellows, housestaffs, and visiting medical students:

Didactic Seminar : Bimonthly intensive review and teaching on Pediatrics GI topics are provided to the fellows by the faculty and invited speakers who are experts in their field. A question and answer period is included in each session to prepare fellows to sit for the subspecialty certification exam. Housestaffs and students are invited to attend.

Core Pediatrics Seminars : Monthly lectures are given by the GI faculties to the housestaffs and medical students during noon conference.

Basic Science Seminar Series : Weekly conference given by a fellow matched to a Gastroenterology Attending to evaluate and review the latest Basic Science Research and literature on a particular GI related topic. The weekly seminars are usually held on campus.
