Soft Tissue and Orthopedic Pathology Service

The Soft Tissue and Orthopedic Pathology Service provides comprehensive diagnostic pathology services to UC San Diego patients in the area of soft tissue and bone neoplasia, and pathologically similar tumors arising from any anatomic location. Pathologists of the Soft Tissue and Orthopedic Pathology Service evaluate biopsies and resections to provide precise diagnoses, assess the extent and severity of disease, completeness of excisions, tumor responsiveness to neoadjuvant therapies, and phenotypes that may be of prognostic and/or predictive significance.

UC San Diego Health treats more people with sarcoma than any hospital system in San Diego. As board certified pathologists with experience and expertise in soft tissue and orthopedic pathology, our team members are part of the multi-disciplinary approach to patient care that is integral to the UC San Diego Health Sarcoma program.

Our pathologists routinely utilize a variety of specialized techniques to supplement routine light microscopy, clinicopathologic correlation and gross evaluation, including immunohistochemistry, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and next generation sequencing.

We are available for consultation on all aspects of soft tissue and orthopedic pathology
