This Fellowship provides a broad exposure to the management of multiply-injured patients, mixed with the management of the orthopaedic infections and nonunions. The Fellow will be an integral member of the orthopaedic trauma team by being involved in resident teaching, conferences, clinical evaluation and surgical treatment. The program is based at the only Level I trauma center in San Diego County. Special areas of interest include complex periarticular fractures, pelvic and acetabular fractures, and nonunions. A dedicated orthopaedic trauma room is available 5 days a week, thereby increasing the cases that are done during the day.
Research opportunities include basic science, clinical and biomechanics. There is a weekly orthopaedic trauma conference, a biweekly trauma conference with general surgery, monthly dedicated trauma Grand Rounds, and opportunity to attend national meetings.
All applicants must have completed an accredited residency program in orthopaedic surgery and be eligible for a California medical license.
