Ongoing projects in the lab include: biomarker discovery for prediction and diagnosis of pregnancy complications; identification and validation of key regulators of human placental development; modeling human pancreatic and hepatic development, both in vitro by directed differentiation of pluripotent stem cells and in silico using gene regulatory networks; and genomic and epigenomic characterization of different substates of pluripotency. We also have a number of ongoing clinical research projects, including studying the clinical and psychological impacts of using next-generation sequencing for prenatal genetic diagnosis of babies with major birth defects, and studying the physical and psychological effects of bedrest compared to moderate physical activity in pregnancies complicated by preterm premature rupture of membranes.
