The Department
of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences offers expertise in the
depth and breadth of care of throughout a woman’s lifetime. Our service has specialists that are renowned
in the region, providing evidenced-based and state of the art health care.
In Obstetrics,
our providers provide both low and high-risk management for pregnancies. This includes a midwife program, one of the
first in its kind in an academic center and an option of a low-risk birthing
center. For those desiring a traditional
model, there is an outstanding group of Obstetricians & Gynecologists
providing prenatal and delivery care at both Jacobs Medical Center and at the
UCSD Hillcrest Medical Center. When
there are high-risk pregnancies, Maternal-Fetal Medicine subspecialists that
can perform consultative management, assisting referring physicians and provide
prenatal care. There is an outstanding
prenatal diagnosis program, which attracts referrals regionally.
General
Gynecology has a number of offices throughout the county. Patients may be referred for routine
care. However, there are a number of
centers of excellence including management of uterine myomata, menopausal disorders,
conditions affecting sexuality and minimally invasive surgery.
For patients
with pelvic floor disorders and incontinence, a world renowned Urogynecologist
Division accepts referrals. This service
not only provides direct patient care, but is also internationally regarded,
studying and contributing to the knowledge and management of these conditions.
The
Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Division cares for women with
underlying endocrine disorders as well as evaluates and manages couples with
infertility. Providers have expertise in
polycystic ovary syndrome, treating uterine abnormalities and assisted
reproductive technology.
For those with
issues complicating contraceptive management, or need for pregnancy termination
services, the Family Planning Division has a team of providers that are adept
not only in evaluation and management, but also provide extremely compassionate
care.
The Gynecologic
Oncology Division, working at the highly acclaimed Moore’s Cancer Center as
well as other sites in the community are available for referrals. This division provides comprehensive
management of patients including surgery and chemotherapy.
While the
number of specialists and sub-specialists seem vast, the goal is to ensure that
a patient desiring the best care, for whatever her condition, will find it at our institution. Our department is committed to providing a wide spectrum of the highest quality knowledge, patient care and service.
