Jose A. Espinoza, PhD is a student in Marine Biology in the lab of Amro Hamdoun at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. He researches how organisms use a group of proteins, the ATP-Binding Cassette transporters, to regulate development and protect against environmental toxicants. In particular Jose's focus is to uncover the role of transporters in distributing developmental signals, and to understand the evolution of transporter signaling. Jose hopes his research will contribute to understanding how chemical defense and cellular signaling are coordinated during development. This data will help us understand the developmental effects of environmental and industrial chemicals in the oceans and our bodies.
