The UCSD School of Medicine Microscopy Core is now a Leica Center of Excellence! We have two new Leica systems in addition to our Leica SP5 confocal with Multiphoton.
Leica SP8 Super Resolution Confocal with White Light Laser, FLIM and STED
Leica SP8 Super Resolution Confocal
These three systems are supported by Leica and we will be hosting several workshops this year. A Leica representative will be onsite once a month to answer any specific questions. Core staff are available during business hours to answer any questions.
Leica Representative Onsite Hours: 9AM - 5PM
Upcoming Leica Workshops in the Core:
STED Workshop: March 12th and 13th
FLIM Workshop: May 7th and 8th
Other Upcoming Workshops:
What: Training Seminar: "Applications of Unbiased Stereology to Neural Tissues."
When: March 20, 2019 from Noon to 3 pm
Where: CNCB Small Conference Room
Cost: No charge
Description: Dr Mouton will provide training in the use of this extraordinarily valuable method for estimating the number of objects in biological samples including the brain. Brain studies often focus on the numbers of neuron cell bodies, dendrites, axons, synapses, amyloid plaques, tangles, inclusions, etc. The use of unbiased stereological methods is increasingly demanded in reviews of grants and publications.
Who: Peter R. Mouton, Ph.D. is one of the first US-trained neuroscientists to compete a full post-doctoral fellowship in Denmark with Professor Hans Gundersen, the "father of unbiased stereology." He subsequently completed an NIH Postdoctoral Fellowship in Neuropathology with Dr. Donald Price and for many years served on the Pathology Faculty at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and at the NIH/Hopkins Bayview Campus in Baltimore MD. He has authored several highly cited stereology textbooks and co-authored 85+ peer-reviewed stereology publications. His stereology workshops, short courses and monthly on-line "Free For All" webinars have provided critical stereology training to more than 4,000 neuroscientists over the past two decades. Dr. Mouton is now Professor of Stereology at the University of South Florida and the Scientific Director/CEO of SRC Biosciences, Inc. in Tampa, Florida.
