2015 UCSD - HeadNorth Neural Injury and Regeneration Symposium
Sponsored by: HeadNorth,
Department of Neurosciences and
Department of Neurobiology.
Organized by: Dr. Corinne Lee-Kubli, Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Neurosciences (Email:

Assisted by: Dennis Nowak
The 2015 UCSD - HeadNorth Neural Injury and Regeneration Symposium was held on June 8, Monday. Local neural regeneration researchers gathered together for research talks and scientific discussions. Local neurosurgeon
Dr. Justin Brown gave an inspiring opening talk on nerve transfer to treat spinal cord injury patients. The symposium culminated with a keynote address by
Dr. Wolfram Tetzlaff from ICORD at the University of British Columbia on their elegant cell transplantation and fate mapping studies in the injured spinal cord.
Pictures from the Symposium are now available here

This symposium is jointly sponsored by HeadNorth, the UCSD Department of Neurosciences and Department of Neurobiology.
HeadNorth, now part of the Sharp HealthCare Foundation, is a local non-profit organization whose mission is “to provide essential support and guidance to individuals affected by a spinal cord injury (SCI), while championing a cure for paralysis."
The UCSD Department of Neurosciences, chaired by Dr. William Mobley, is building new models to increase collaboration among researchers, industry, and clinicians through multidisciplinary research interest groups and a Translational Neuroscience Institute. For more information, please visit the department website (https://medschool.ucsd.edu/som/neurosciences/).
The UCSD Department of Neurobiology, chaired by Dr. Yimin Zou, brings together a group of faculty who do research and instruction with the mission of understanding how nervous systems work. Their multidisciplinary approach is yielding insights into the rich complexity of mechanisms that influence how we think, feel, and act.
