One of our residency program’s greatest strengths is the outstanding UCSD electrophysiology experience.
Every resident is required to do a 2-month EMG/neuromuscular rotation mostly devoted to performing electromyography and nerve conduction tests. Every resident also has a required 2-month EEG/epilepsy rotation, with close to half the time devoted to reading electroencephalograms, evoked potentials, and video-EEG telemetry studies. These required rotations teach the basic electrophysiologic skills that all neurologists should have, regardless of special interest or specialization.
Additional training during elective time will further prepare residents to perform electrophysiologic studies in typical clinical situations. UCSD residents who go on to advanced training in electrophysiology typically have a significant head start on their fellowship.
