Funding Opportunities

Investigators are Needed

With the projected increase in the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) in coming years, there is an urgent need to enhance and diversify our nation's workforce of ADRD investigators. More researchers are needed who can effectively lead cross-disciplinary, translational, team-science initiatives to enable rapid progress in preventing and treating ADRD.

Our Goal

The overarching goal of the Research Education Component (REC)  is to provide a supportive environment to foster innovative, interdisciplinary research with an emphasis on bi-directional translational research. We will recruit and train outstanding junior faculty from a broad range of disciplines, including members of underrepresented groups, in cutting-edge research methods to promote the development of future research leaders in ADRD. We will monitor their success in developing high-impact independent research programs and evaluate the effectiveness of our training program with objective.

Current Call for Applications

DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS IN ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE AND RELATED DISORDERS (AD/ADRD)

The UCSD Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) is soliciting applications for development grants. This funding opportunity is intended to support new ideas and new investigators in AD/ADRD research. It is designed for early career investigators, but may be awarded to more senior investigators whose research is primarily in other areas if they want to do new research in AD/ADRD. Established investigators in AD may be eligible if they are pursuing a change in research direction. Funds are to be used to develop preliminary data that will be used toward an application for independent research support. Two grants of up to $100,000 will be awarded by the ADRC through a combination of funding from its center grant (NIA P30 AG062429) and institutional/philanthropic support. $50,000 will be awarded in the first year, and upon satisfactory year-end progress reporting and committee review, a second tranche of funding will be provided. Funding is contingent upon successful renewal of the ADRC Center grant, which is currently under review. Proposals are due December 1, 2023, for the project period April 1, 2024 - March 31, 2025.  We look forward to receiving your proposal. Please submit an electronic copy to Emily Little, MPH, at e2little@health.ucsd.edu and copy Dr. Brewer at jbrewer@health.ucsd.edu. Proposals will undergo local scientific review to select those submitted to NIA for funding. For more information about this opportunity and proposal requirements, click here.
