The lab is involved in a collaborative software project called Cytoscape (http://www.cytoscape.org). Cytoscape is a free, Open Source bioinformatics environment for integration, visualisation, and query of biological networks [Shannon et al. Genome Research 13, 2498-504 2003; Cline et al. Nature Protocols 2(10):2366-82 2007]. Approximately 100 plugins to Cytoscape have been developed and released by a variety of third-party research groups. The open-source nature of Cytoscape promotes both non-profit and commercial use and ensures that the bioinformatic resources developed for the Cytoscape project will remain publicly available. Cytoscape development in the lab is funded by the National Resource for Network Biology (NRNB) under award numbers P41 RR031228 and P41 GM103504, and under award GM070743 from the National Institute for General Medical Sciences.
