Our research team at UC San Diego is conducting a study to gain major insights into the unanswered question "why does obesity (sometimes) cause sleep apnea". This research will have major therapeutic implications as it will allow the investigators to individualize therapy for afflicted patients.

Maximum compensation for completing entire study (exercises done over 6 weeks):
$600.00Qualifications:
- Age 30-65 years
- BMI 35-40 kg/m2
- Scheduled for sleeve gastrectomy (bariatric surgery)
What you may be asked to do during this study:
5 in-clinic overnight visits to assess any changes in OSA presence and severity
2 visits in Sorrento Valley for an MRI of the head and upper airway duirng the day or evening (not overnght)
Non-invasive measures of blood vessel function
Lung function assessments
Computerized reaction-time tests
Study questionnaires
Blood draws
