People Living with HIV


Our research team at UC San Diego is conducting a study to understand how obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) affects the way that people living with HIV feel.

Who is Eligible?:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Diagnosis of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
  • What you may be asked to do during this study:

  • Two daytime assessments at our UCSD Sleep Research Laboratory in La Jolla (ACTRI building)
  • Questionnaires
  • Fasting blood draw
  • Lung function test
  • Noninvasive test to measure endothelial function
  • You will be given a wrist-worn device to measure activity and light exposure, to be worn for 2 weeks at visit #1
  • Two overnight sleep studies at our UCSD Sleep Research Laboratory in La Jolla (ACTRI building)
  • Polysomnogram sleep study, with a modified continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device used for overnight #2
  • Fasting blood draw
