Since the inception of the Combined Medicine/Pediatrics Program at UC San Diego in 1994, we have enjoyed seeing the success of our graduates in a variety of fields. We also boast a first-time 96% board pass rate on the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) exam and a 98% pass rate on the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) exam over the past 12 years. This exceeds the national ABIM board pass rate of 91% and the national ABP pass rate of 91%.
Like most graduates trained in both internal medicine and pediatrics, you will have a wide range of opportunities available to you once you have completed training at UC San Diego.
Many of our graduates go on to primary care practices doing both medicine and pediatrics in both outpatient and hospitalist settings. A large number choose practices in underserved areas. We also have many graduates who have applied to fellowship and have matched all into competitive programs, as well as many graduates pursuing combined hospital medicine. Still, other graduates have gone on to work for the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, the Indian Health Services, pursued global health careers, or have continued in academic medicine.
