Postodoctoral position in multiscale modeling of inhaled aerosol dosimetry

A post-doctoral fellow position is available in Dr. Chantal Darquenne's laboratory at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). The research is funded by NIH with a focus on the development of patient-specific multiscale computational models that can predict the deposition of inhaled aerosols in all regions of the respiratory system of individuals that are either healthy or suffering from respiratory diseases. The initial appointment is full-time for one year, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and continued funding.

Candidates will work closely with project collaborators at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) in Richland, WA and Applied Research Associates (ARA) in Raleigh, NC and will participate in model development, experimental data extraction, model evaluation against experimental data and model refinement. Candidates will assist in the data management and archiving tools for the project. Candidates will also be expected to provide a leading role in writing reports and peer-reviewed scientific publications.  

Prospective candidates should possess a doctoral degree (completed), and have expertise in the fields of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), mathematical modeling, image processing, computer simulation/visualization. Candidates should be familiar with one or more software: OpenFoam, Ansys, Fluent, Matlab, C++ and with UNIX or LINUX environment. Experience in respiratory flows and lung physiology is highly desired.

Excellent communication skills both written and oral are critical for the success of this research.
