Mounir Soliman, M.D., M.B.A., is the Executive Director of the University of California, San Diego Health Sciences International. He provides the overall leadership and strategic direction of Health Sciences International and its programs. He also works closely with the senior leadership of UCSD Health Sciences to align the international service line with the University’s core mission. He is instrumental in promoting UC San Diego Medical Center’s International Clinical Services as a center of excellence in advanced medical and surgical treatment. Dr. Soliman leads the efforts to advocate UCSD as a worldwide partner and provider of superb innovative patient care, cutting edge research, and advanced education.
Dr. Soliman is a leader in global healthcare specializing in systems assessment, strategy planning and execution, clinical programs development, management, and contract negotiations. In an effort to bring the best possible healthcare systems, he has led the negotiations with many health care delivery organizations, academic medical institutions, government and non-government agencies, and the other key stakeholders for the development of strategic health alliances with UCSD Health Sciences. Dr. Soliman led the UCSD international team of experts that evaluated the healthcare system in Kuwait, which led to the development of a management and operations plan for the Kuwait Cancer Center and the Cardiovascular Hospital. He is currently working closely with potential partners in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and India. In addition, Dr. Soliman is an expert in developing Elite Health programs tailored to professionals and executives and was featured in Forbes Magazine, San Diego Business Journal, Men’s Health/Best Life Magazine, and the San Diego Union Tribune.
Dr. Soliman joined the UCSD faculty in 1998, after completing his postgraduate training in Psychiatry at UCSD. He is the Chief of Clinical Affairs, Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Medical Director of the UCSD Psychopharmacology Research Initiative of Excellence. In his role as Chief of Clinical Affairs, he provides clinical and administrative leadership support to 110 faculty members, and oversees inpatient, outpatient, and specialty programs. He has worked to improve access to services, safety, quality, and patient satisfaction, which has led in part to the advancement of the Department of Psychiatry nationally, now ranked in the top 25 according to US News & World Report. He serves on the UCSD Medical Group Board of Governors, and the UCSD Professional Standards Committee. Dr. Soliman is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. In addition to his Medical Degree, he has a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare (M.B.A.) from the Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine.
