Michelle Hermas serves as the Director of
International Affairs (IA). She provides strategic planning and support for UC San Diego's engagement with the world outside the United States and assists the campus in defining objectives for collaboration in education, research, and service with institutions in other countries. Michelle also serves as a resource for academic divisions, research units and professional schools on executing their international strategy, and works with University leadership on the effectiveness and efficiency of processes in support of global education and research. She co-chairs the International Staff Council, and serves on the Global Health Initiative Steering Committee and ad-hoc work-groups relevant to the international dimension of UC San Diego.
Prior to joining UC San Diego in 2006, Ms. Hermas managed an HIV public health program for the County of San Diego, and taught English as a second language in Gotemba, Japan. She holds a master’s degree in applied sociology from Northern Arizona University, and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from UC San Diego.
