Infectious Disease Fellowship Leaders

Darcy Wooten, MD, MS Fellowship Program Director dawooten@health.ucsd.edu	Darcy Wooten, MD, MS attended undergrad at Stanford University where she studied Human Biology. She completed medical school and IM residency at the University of California, San Francisco and earned a Masters in Health and Medicine Sciences from UC Berkeley. She completed her ID fellowship training at Harbor UCLA before starting as faculty at UCSD in 2014. Her areas of clinical interest include HIV Medicine and General Infectious Diseases. Her passion is medical education. She directs the Clinical Foundations course for first and second-year medical students and is highly involved in teaching, mentoring, and curricular development for clinical medical students and IM residents. She served as the Associate Program Director for the ID Fellowship Program before moving into the Program Director role. She is an active member of the IDSA's Community of Practice for Medical Education. She enjoys spending time with her motorcycle-riding, bourbon-distilling husband, Joe, her energetic and independent toddler, Maya, and her loveable Aussie-Doodle, Bourbon.
Nancy Law, DO, MPH Associate Fellowship Program Director nalaw@health.ucsd.edu	Nancy Law, DO, MPH obtained her undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University where she studied Life Sciences and minored in Microbiology, Chinese, and Women’s Studies. Dr. Law then went on to pursue a dual degree getting her MPH with a concentration in Health Planning and Geriatric Health and her DO degree in June 2011 from A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona. Dr. Law completed two fellowships, the first in Infectious Diseases in her hometown of Philadelphia at Drexel University College of Medicine, and the second fellowship in Transplant Infectious Diseases at University of Toronto/University Health Network. She started as faculty at UCSD in 2017. Her areas of clinical interests include Solid Organ Transplant and Oncology Infectious Diseases as well as Antimicrobial Stewardship in immunocompromised hosts. Her other passions include medical education and building diversity and cultural competency in all areas of medicine. Dr. Law is currently serving as the he Associate Program Director for the ID Fellowship Program as well as the Assistant Director of Epidemiology & ASP, for the Immunocompromised Services. She is an active member of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation and the American Society of Transplant Infectious Disease Community of Practice. Dr. Law spends her free time traveling to a new country every year, updating her foodie list, or planning the next romantic date or adventure for her husband, Ross, and sassy daughter, Sofia.
Mary Lewinski, MD, PhD Associate Fellowship Program Director mlewinski@health.ucsd.edu	Mary Lewinski, MD, PhD, earned undergraduate degrees in Philosophy and Political Science with a Minor in Russian Language and Literature from the University of Southern California. She pursued her MD and PhD in Biomedical Sciences at UC San Diego as part of the Medical Scientist Training Program. Her graduate research on "Retroviral Integration: Mechanism and Consequences" was conducted in the laboratory of Rick Bushman, PhD, then at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. She completed her research-track Internal Medicine residency as part of UC San Diego's Physician Scientist Training Pathway before matriculating into UC San Diego's Infectious Diseases Fellowship. Her T32-funded fellowship research in the laboratory of John Guatelli, MD, focused on HIV-host interactions and led to an NIH K08 award, "HIV-1 Modulation of the Ubiquitinome and Its Effects on Cell-to-Cell Transmission." Since starting her faculty position at UC San Diego in 2014, she has continued her involvement with the MSTP and PSTP and currently serves as an Associate Program Director for the ID Fellowship Program. Her research interests include viral-host interactions with active projects investigating HIV and SARS-CoV-2. She also serves as the Developmental Core Director for the San Diego Center for AIDS Research. Her clinical work is primarily at the VA San Diego Healthcare System and focuses on HIV Primary Care and General ID. Dr. Lewinski spends her free time homebrewing (having completed UC San Diego's Brewing Professional Certificate Program), playing with her Maltipoo, Nikita, and visiting national parks with her husband, Jeff.
