Infectious Diseases Fellowship

Director's Welcome

Welcome to our website and our program. Infectious Diseases is THE BEST and MOST INTERESTING specialty, and we are thrilled to share your passion for the field.

Our mission is to support the career development and goals of our ID learners through outstanding and diverse clinical, educational, and research training experiences in an academic environment. We aim to recruit, train, and advance a diverse group of physicians with the goal of reflecting the demographics of our diverse patient population and achieving inclusive excellence.

Our ACGME-accredited program offers a 2-year Clinician Educator track, a 3-year Research track, and a 4-year Adult/Peds ID fellowship (for trainees who have completed Med/Peds Residency; this track is not available for the 2023 recruitment year). Fellows in each track spend their first year of fellowship rotating on the various ID consult services at our three main training hospitals and in a variety of outpatient ID clinics. Fellows in the Clinician Educator track customize their second year of fellowship with advanced clinical training in their area of emphasis, while research fellows focus on conducting research with the goal of transitioning to an independent research career after training.

The division of Infectious Diseases and Global Public Health at UCSD has over 70 world-renowned faculty who serve as clinical, research, and career mentors and educators for our ID fellows. Our faculty love working with fellows and are incredibly approachable and dedicated to helping fellows achieve success and fulfillment in their professional and personal lives.

I want to extend an incredibly warm welcome to you.
I hope that this website gives you a feel for our program and I look forward to meeting you.

Sincerely,

Darcy Wooten, MD, MS
