Dr. Supraja Thota received her MD degree at Boston University School of Medicine and completed her Internal Medicine residency training at the University of California San Diego. In addition, she served as a Chief Medical Resident prior to joining the Division of Hospital Medicine at UC San Diego in 2017.
As an academic hospitalist, Dr. Thota has a true passion for medical education. She helped create and is the Director of the Residents as Clinician Educators (RACE) Track within the UC San Diego Internal Medicine Residency Program and implemented a longitudinal curriculum for all IM residents to gain core teaching skills. She also serves as a Core Faculty member for the Internal Medicine Residency program, is a member of the Medical Education Committee within the Division of Hospital Medicine, and is a Master Clinician for the Internal Medicine third-year medical school clerkship. Additionally, Dr. Thota is the Chair of the Recruitment and Retention Committee within the Division of Hospital Medicine. She has also helped create and implement the Hospital Medicine Peer Rounding for Observation and Feedback program and participates in the Quality Improvement and Research Committee within the Division of Hospital Medicine. She also serves as a faculty advisor for the UC San Diego PACE Program.
