Academic Profile

Dr. Bethany Karl graduated from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine in 2007 before relocating to the West Coast to attend her internal medicine internship and residency at UC San Diego 2007-2010. After completing her residency training she continued at UC San Diego to complete her nephrology fellowship in 2013 after which she joined UC San Diego Health as an attending faculty physician in both the Division of Hospital Medicine as well as the Division of Nephrology.

Dr. Karl is passionate about clinical care of patients and educating the next generation of physicians. She is an active educator in the medical school, internal medicine residency program and nephrology fellowship. She serves on the Health Sciences Faculty Council Student Affairs Committee of the UCSD medical school as well as serves on the selection committees for the UCSD Internal Medicine residency and Nephrology fellowship. Her other committee roles include the UCSD Graduate Medical Education Committee and the UCSD Ethics Committee where she also serves as an Ethics Consultant for the UC San Diego Health System.
