She served as a faculty member of a newly formed academic Hospital Medicine Division at Washington University prior to heading back to the west coast and joining the Division of Hospital Medicine at UC San Diego.
As a hospitalist, Dr. Quartarolo has an interest in quality improvement and has pursued projects with the goal of improving patient care in the acute care setting. She received additional training in quality improvement through the Institute for Health Care Delivery Research, and she has been involved in quality improvement projects at the local and national level. She completed the UCSD Health Leadership Academy in 2017. She has served as physician lead for efforts in transitions of care, including representing UCSD in the San Diego collaborative for Medicare's CCTP Program (Community Care Transitions Program) and the UC Office of the President (UCOP) Readmission Reduction Collaborative. She served as a mentor to hospitals throughout the nation through Society of Hospital Medicine's Project BOOST (Better Outcomes by Optimizing Safe Transitions). She participates in clinical teaching of both medical students and residents, and is one of the faculty members for the Value Improves Quality rotation for internal medicine residents.
From 2012-2018, she served as a Medical Director to Clinical Resource Management, and currently is the Physician Director to the Clinical Documentation Improvement Program at UCSD. She looks forward to continuing to lead efforts to improve the quality and value of health care delivery.
