Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Virtual and Live Training
The UC San Diego Musculoskeletal Ultrasound curriculum has been created to provide comprehensive modular activities to teach point-of-care musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSKUS) for the evaluation of ankles, knees and elbows, and to become familiar with skills to be applied to arthritic conditions and other musculoskeletal syndromes, including hemophilic arthropathy. Due to COVID-19 this curriculum was transformed to provide comprehensive education online, with the introduction of our two on-demand web-based courses.
These modules can be booked and accessed separately based on provider needs. Online Module 1 will provide basic MSKUS knowledge applicable to all arthritic conditions and musculoskeletal syndromes. Course participants will learn basic ultrasound physics, how to operate ultrasound machines (including the use of small emerging hand-held devices), sono-anatomy and sono-pathology. Online Module 2 requires a basic understanding of MSKUS techniques (for example acquired with Online Module 1) and focuses on hemophilic arthropathy, joint bleed detection, distinction between simple and complex effusions as well as the Joint Tissue Examination and Damage Exam (JADE), a validated joint ultrasound protocol for evaluation of hemophilic joints.
We are happy to announce that we will be offering our live, in-person 3-day course during 2022 at the Hemophilia and Thrombosis Treatment Center at UC San Diego. This course will be similar to our past curriculum in that participants will be able to engage in hands-on practice with guidance from our expert level MSKUS instructors.
