Membership Requirement & Criteria

All faculty members in the gastroenterology or hepatology research community at our participating institutions are eligible for Center membership. The Executive Committee reviews membership lists on an ongoing basis to actively recruit new members drawn from recruitments, maturation of junior investigators to independent scientists, and identification of established faculty whose scientific interests have gravitated towards gastrointestinal or liver research. Two categories of membership will be used in the Center, full members and associate members. Full members provide the funding base for the Center and are the primary beneficiaries of the Center's services. To become a full member, an investigator must meet the criteria listed below.

Membership Criteria for Full Members

  1. Substantial published record in digestive diseases research relevant to the Center theme
  2. Record of current or recent independent funding in digestive diseases research
  3. Clear need for services from at least one of the Core facilities
By comparison, associate members show interest and promise in digestive diseases research, but do not have a fully developed research program in the area, either because they are junior faculty or their primary research focus is currently elsewhere. It is anticipated that the Center will play an important role in facilitating the growth and development of associate members to establish independent research programs, as well as becoming active, collaborating members.

Membership Criteria for Associate Members

  1. Documented interest or technical expertise in digestive diseases research relevant to the Center theme
  2. Clear need for services from at least one of the Core facilities
