December 2022:

  • Congratulations to Ella McLaren for getting the Crohn's Colitis Foundation Summer Student Research Scholarchip Award for 2023! She will be working closely under the joirnt (transdisciplinary) mentorship of Dr. Madhubanti Mullick and Dr. Saptarshi Sinha, and together they are looking to launch an ambitious GPCR-targeted therapeutics program in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases.
  • Congratulations to Dr. Gajanan D. Katkar for having abstract selected for Poster Session at the 2022 Cell Symposia on Advances in Therapeutic Applications of Stem Cells, organized by Editors at Cell Press. He presented our work on organoid-based modeling of Crohn's Disease.

November 2022:

  • Congratulations to Adel Adel for matching at the Midwestern Medical School in Arizona to embark upon his journey to become a physician. Well done, Adel!

January 2020 - December 2021:

We, as much of the world, found ourselves working amidst a raging pandemic. We were busy (see PubMed) and most in the group took the opportunity to rise and shine even brighter. Where others saw obstacles, we saw an opportunity to achieve goals that we did not think were possible. We hit the headlines many times (see see News). Some highlights are presented below for external coverage of our lab in the news.

December 2020:

Congratulations to Dr. Gajanan D. Katkar for receiving an Intersect Fellowship from the American Association of Immunology (AAI) for 2021. This 1-year long prestigeous fellowship is meant to support career lunch into computational immunology.

Feb 10, 2021:

HUMANOID's Das and Ghosh enable modeling skin transdifferentiation. In a paper published online in the February 4, 2021 issue of Nature Communications, in which senior author George L. Sen, PhD, an associate professor in the departments of Cellular and Molecular Medicine and Dermatology, and colleagues describe what happens to skin cells when a key protein is blocked during stem cell differentiation.

  • Congratulations to Nicolas Aznar and Jason Ear, and a team of their collaborators who just had their manuscript accepted at Science Signaling , describing how increasing growth factor signaling may flip a tumor suppressor protein [Daple] into a prometastatic oncogene during colon cancer progression. This work shows how Daple, which was initially found to have a Dr. Jeckyl and Mr Hyde sort of bifaceted role in epithelial cells, switches from one role to another.

  • Congratulations to Nicolas Aznar on a very productive postdoctoral fellowship here at UCSD. He has recently secured funding from the French ARC agency (Association pour la recherche sur le cancer), which will support his transition for 2 years as he relocates to the CRCL (Centre de Recherche en Cancérologie de Lyon, France). Nico will work in the department of Cancer Cell Plasticity, embedded within a team led by Michelina Plateroti, who works on "development, cancer and stem cells".

Mar 2015: The Ghosh lab (jointly with Dr Hatim Husain) receives the Translational and Clinical Cancer Research Award from the Moores Cancer Center (UCSD).

Feb 2015: Changsheng's paper (MBoC 2014) was featured online on Global Medical Discovery [ISSN 1929-8536] (https://globalmedicaldiscovery.com ). It was also shared with the pharmathis articleceutical and scientific community.

June 2014: Inmaculada Lopez-Sanchez, Ph.D., a postdoctoral fellow in the Ghosh lab is awarded the AHA postdoctoral Fellowship award. This funding supports Inma for 2 years fr a total of $100,000 in support of research project on Insulin resistance/Diabetes. Thank you, AHA!

May 2014: Krishna Midde, Ph.D., a postdoctoral fellow in the Ghosh lab is awarded the Basic and Translational Postdoctoral Fellowship Award. This funding was approved by Komen's board of directors through a 3-year grant for a total of $180,000 in support of his research project entitled "style="text-align: justify; font-family: calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;">A novel therapeutic and diagnostic target in triple negative breast cancers".
