2020-2021 U.S. News & World Report ranks UC San Diego Health #1 in San Diego and #6 in California placing it among the nation's best hospitals. Gastroenterology & GI Surgery was rnaked nationally in 10 adult specialities and rated high performing in 8 adult procedures and conditions.

US News and World Report today ranked UCSD Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology #1 in the World out of 1,748 universities as the "Best Global University for Gastroenterology and Hepatology." This ranking is based on total publications, highly cited publications, and research reputation. It is a measure of research volume and impact.

Amir Zarrinpar, MD, PhD received a grant from the Prevent Cancer Foundation to investigate the microbiome of cancers as a possible blood-based biomarker for detection of liver hepatocellular carcinoma at an earlier stage.
