The overall focus of my research over the past 3 years has been mainly in the area of developing, testing, and evaluating new technologies and pharmaceutical agents for the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This area has been the focus since I came to UCSD. Some of the major areas that I have been working on over the past 3 years include: sensor technology (developing implantable glucose sensors and non-invasive infrared continual glucose monitoring systems); studies on the efficacy, safety, and practical usage of Amylin; and involvement in The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) and the NIH Type 1 Prevention Trial (DPT-1). In addition, I take an active role in the non-profit organization that I founded: “Taking Control of Your Diabetes”.
