Our Mission: To optimize the experience of aging through excellence in clinical care, inspired teaching, and transformative research.

Our Vision:  To create a better world for aging people.

We are ranked 13th out of more than 1500 national programs in "2020-2021 U.S. News & World Report"

We are pleased to announce that our Division Chief, Dr.  Alison Moore, has recently been appointed in a new role for the UC San Diego Department of Medicine as Vice Chair of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). In this role, Dr. Moore will provide vision and leadership to promote a departmental culture that values and supports diversity, equity and inclusion. She will be responsible for evaluating and improving the practices of all divisions within the department, including their recruitment and retention strategies for faculty and trainees, and ensuring a supportive and welcoming climate.
Dr. Moore is a nationally recognized geriatrician, scientist and educator in her field, with a longstanding commitment and extensive expertise in aging research focused on diverse populations of older adults and career development as exemplified by her involvement in multiple training programs and service to aging research organizations. She has mentored dozens of early stage investigators, including many investigators who are women, and/or from racial/ethnic minority backgrounds, and in 2019, was recognized with a UCSD Health Sciences Faculty Excellence in Mentoring Award.  As chief of the UC San Diego Division of Geriatrics, Gerontology and Palliative Care, she leads the division’s efforts to optimize the experience of aging through excellence in clinical care, inspired teaching, and transformative research. She also leads the NIA-funded San Diego Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center for Minority Aging Research (AD-RCMAR), whose major goals are to support career development of underrepresented investigators and fill critical gaps in research related to Alzheimer’s and related dementias (ADRD) with a focus on Latino populations.

Researchers at UC San Diego are investigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health and productivity of early career scientists. The goal is to identify factors that might promote success and prevent the broadening of disparities in the research workforce.

We invite post-doctoral fellows and early career faculty (rank no higher than Assistant Professor or equivalent) to complete an online survey, which should take approximately 15 minutes. All responses are confidential. Participants will be entered in a raffle for a $25 gift card. Click here to participate!
