Congratulations to faculty members, Dr. Diane Chau and Dr. Arnold Gass on their new book addressing the importance of Homeless Older Populations!

The UCSD GWEP had its 4th Annual Wound Care Workshop in December. The Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) helps prepare healthcare providers to meet the needs of the aging U.S. population to ensure improved health for older adults.

Dr. Colin Thomas and his team at the VA were recognized by the VHA Office of Systems Redesign and Improvement for their presentation entitled "RPIW: Improving the Discharge Process". The presentation demonstrated that standardizing the discharge process reduces confusion and enhances efficiency.

Division News

West Health and the UCSD Division of Geriatrics have partnered to support one of our recent geriatrics fellowship graduates, Dr. Lindsey Yourman, to be trained in a two- year fellowship focused on Quality Improvement and Implementation Science.  We are excited about this partnership to train geriatrics health professionals to improve the care of older adults.

In January, faculty and staff from the Division gathered for an annual retreat to strategize and develop goals for the coming years related to our clinical, research, and education initiatives!

Dr. Khai Nguyen has been accepted to the 2018 class of the UC San Diego Health Leadership Academy. This program allows faculty to learn about leadership, develop a deeper understanding of healthcare and to prepare for increased responsibility at UCSD Health.

Fellowship Program

The UC San Diego Geriatrics Fellowship Program trains three fellows per year. Our fellows for 2017-18 are (L-R) Mohammed Shaker, Angeline Pai and Josh Bollan!

Our program slots are also filled for 2018-19 and we look forward to welcoming three new fellows!

The goal of our ACGME-accredited Geriatrics Fellowship Program is to develop geriatricians who desire to work in an academic environment and become leaders in the field.
