San Diego/Imperial Geriatric Education Center

The UC San Diego Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology is co-lead with San Diego State University on a Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) award funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This grant is helping to develop and expand the health care work force trained to better care for older adults in San Diego and Imperial Counties. 

It is building upon the regional Alzheimer’s Project Initiative to increase the healthcare workforce trained across multiple levels to enhance care for those with memory loss and maximize patient/family engagement to improve outcomes on a County-wide level. 

Partners include the UC San Diego Divisions of Geriatrics and Geriatric Psychiatry and San Diego State University's School of Nursing, School of Social Work, and Graduate School of Public Health, along with the San Diego County Aging & Independence Services, Imperial County Area Agency on Aging, select Federally Qualified Health Centers and Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), Alzheimer's San Diego, Glenner Memory Care Centers, Southern Caregiver Resource Center and the Alzheimer's Association - San Diego/Imperial Chapter.
