Mindful Compassionate Parenting

This 10-week course (90 minutes each week) in Mindful Compassionate Parenting teaches parents and caretakers the art of being fully present with your child with kindness, consideration, and compassion.

So often the demands of life affect our ability to practice patience and deep listening with our children, which can impact the quality of the parent/child relationship. This inattention can contribute to frustration and confusion for both parent and child. By identifying reactive patterns and exploring options for attending to the unplanned stressors in our lives, we can improve our ability to respond skillfully to our own needs and the needs of our children. In this course, participants will be introduced to the foundations of Mindfulness and the effect of mindfulness training on emotional regulation and stress reduction.  In addition, participants will learn the purpose and value of the adolescent brain and its role in preparing a teen for life, along with ways to redirect the attention of a child in the midst of a tantrum. Participants will explore methods for cultivating emotional resilience, kindness, and compassion in their children. 

Parenting by all standards is challenging. In this course, participants will have an opportunity to listen deeply and with consideration to their children and create new ways of interacting, which, in turn, will teach children to manage their own stressors and live their own lives with greater skill and enjoyment.

Lorraine Hobbs Lorraine M. Hobbs  

Founding Director of the Youth, Family, & Education Programs

 During her tenure at the Center, she has developed and implemented curricula in mindfulness for multiple age groups and a course in Mindful & Compassionate Parenting.  As a family therapist and former clinical director of adolescent treatment programs, her concern for the adverse effects of stress on the social and emotional development of teens led to pioneering work in the area of self-compassion for teens. She is co-author of Making Friends with Yourself: A Mindful Self-Compassion Program for Teens & Young Adults, adapted from the adult Mindful Self-Compassion Program and endorsed by Kristen Neff, Ph.D. & Chris Germer, Ph.D.  She is certified to teach MBSR (Mindfulness Based-Stress Reduction), MSC (Mindful Self-Compassion), and CCARE (Compassion Cultivation, Altruism, Research & Education), a year-long training program created by clinical psychologists and contemplative scholars at Stanford University.  Lorraine is co-director of the Mindfulness for Adolescents Certification Program. She also consults with educators on integrating mindfulness and compassion-based programs in schools and offers workshops & public talks in the community.

 

Joerg Mangold 

Joerg is a Certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Instructor (MBSR), a Certified Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy Instructor (MBCT), a Certified Mindful Self-Compassion Instructor (MSC), a Certified Mindfulness-Based Compassionate Living Instructor (MBCL), a Mindful Parenting and MYmind Instructor (Programs by Susan Boegels, NL) and Positive Neuroplasticity Instructor (PNT). He is the author of Mindful Compassionate Parenting (MCP), a Mindfulness and Self-Compassion-Program for Parents, and author of the corresponding book for parents in Germany, where he is living and where his program is certified and subsidized by the health system. He is a Teacher Trainer for MCP in Germany.

He has more than 25 years of clinical experience as a psychiatrist and psychotherapist specialized in children, adolescents, and families. He has a Teaching assignment for Mindful Parenting at the University KPH Wien/Krems (Vienna).

Registration Fees for 10-week course: 

  • One parent Regular fee $400 (Early-Bird fee $350)
  • Both parents Regular fee $600 (Early-Bird fee $550)
  • UCSD one parent Regular fee $370 (Early-Bird fee$320)
