Symone earned her Master’s degree in Psychology with a focus on physical and mental health research from San Diego State University. As a program evaluation specialist at HSRC, she worked as a recruitment coordinator for the Overcoming Pain Through Yoga in the Military (OPTYM) study, which focuses on testing the acceptability and feasibility of a yoga intervention for chronic lower back and neck pain in active duty military personnel, and the Neuro-Cognitive Disorder due to traumatic brain injuries (NCDT) study, which focuses on the validation of a rapid saliva test to detect neurocognitive disorders in concussed athletes.
She also assists with the bi-annual distribution and processing of the state-wide Mental Health Statistics Improvement Program (MHSIP) survey to adult consumers of county-funded mental health services in San Diego County. Lastly, she provides research support to several international tuberculosis (TB) studies that focus on identifying the growing problem of drug-resistant TB and its transmission. Collectively, Symone has assisted in data management responsibilities for each project.
