Classes, Events and Programs

Group classes offered at UCSD teach and support conscious, healthy living, including: group exercise and stress reduction, personal coaching and training, nutrition and cooking, and mindfulness practices such as Kundalini Yoga Meditation and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). These courses and more, along with select integrative clinical services may also be packaged for a discounted rate for large private groups, such as Employee Wellness Programs.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

The course schedule consists of eight weekly classes and one daylong class on a weekend. This highly participatory, practical course includes:

  • Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices
  • Gentle stretching and mindful yoga
  • Inquiry exercises to enhance awareness in everyday life
  • Individually tailored instruction
  • Group dialogue
  • Daily home assignments
  • Guided audio files for home practice and a workbook
  • A free copy of The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workbook by Bob Stahl and Elisha Goldsein

Nutrition & Cooking Classes

What we choose to put into our bodies every day makes a dramatic impact on our health and well-being. How we consume and the people with whom we share meals also make a difference. Nutrition experts from the Center for Integrative Medicine offer a variety of courses to teach how dietary choices provide an empowering means to prevent and even treat many diseases. The following nutrition and cooking courses are available:


LIGHT (Light-Induced Guided Healing Therapy)

Whether you are an entrepreneur or a student, a parent or a coach, an athlete seeking to better your performance or an individual faced with the shifting demands of chronic illness, Light Induced Guided Healing Therapy (LIGHT) provides an opportunity to improve quality of life and engineer new mental pathways that anchor a more positive outlook of life. With practice, we can develop new habits of the mind that work to make the experience of life richer and more rewarding.

The 8-week LIGHT Self-Efficacy Course will introduce you to the foundational principles of this novel, evidence-based protocol and will provide you with ample practice to embody LIGHT for self-care and continued personal growth.


Group Exercise

Qigong, Tai Chi and Yoga share a common thread—they all work with the breath, intention and focus to increase your body’s energy and healing power, and to reduce stress.


Qigong

An ancient Chinese discipline, qigong combines movement, self-massage, meditation, and breathing to cultivate your body’s vital “qi” energy.


Tai Chi

The Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance program is based on the research and program development of Dr. Fuzhong Li. With support from the State of California Department of Public Health, the UCSD Center for Integrative Medicine serves as hub and support network for this protocol. 


Yoga

Yoga comes from ancient Indian philosophy, and has evolved into various forms that are practices throughout the world, such as Hatha, Kundalini and Ashtanga. They all include a unique set of postures that connect the mind, body and spirit through stretching, breathing and meditation.
