The Middle East Consortium on Mental Health is led by the Division of Global Health in collaboration with George Washington University and the University of San Diego. This collaboration builds on the work among refugees in San Diego who are from the Middle East and started in 2014 by a visit organized through our division for Jo Ellen Patterson to take a group of students for training of Family Medicine physicians in Jordan on mental health collaborative care models. This was followed by a reciprocal visit by Dr. Adi Khassawneh, professor of family medicine from Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) to UC San Diego. The group is launching the initiative in Jordan through the first National mental health in primary care workshop in April 2016 where all entities working with mental health in Jordan provide their insight and solutions to the challenge of mental health. This work will be expanded to Lebanon, West Bank and Gaza and other nearby countries hosting refugees. The delegation from the Consortium who organized this workshop are Wael Al-Delaimy, James Griffith from George Washington University, and Todd Edwards and Jo Ellen Patterson from the Division of Global Health and San Diego University.
