Visiting Residents

The UC San Diego Division of Sports Medicine provides a two week elective for third year residents interested in gaining more experience in primary care sports medicine and fellowship training. Highlights of the elective experience and requirements are noted below.

Sports Medicine Elective Highlights

The visiting resident will work closely with the UC San Diego Sports Medicine faculty and fellows in the Departments of Family Medicine in high volume sports medicine clinics. They will also have athletic training room experience with Division I collegiate athletes at the UC San Diego LionTree Arena, in addition to local community and high school injury clinics.

The resident will also be attending weekly multidisciplinary sports medicine didactic sessions with faculty and fellows in primary care sports medicine from the San Diego region, including UC San Diego, Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, San Diego Sports Medicine Alvarado Group, and Eisenhower Medical Center. They will have opportunity to participate in the medical coverage of various athletic events (depending on time of year of rotation).
