Dr. Snyder grew up on the east coast but fell in love with San Diego during his interview here, having come from a slushy Baltimore to a verdant, El Nino-year SoCal. After residency at UCSD, he became the inaugural fellow in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine and then joined the faculty in 1999. He has been active in the medical center’s Ethics Committee and provides ethics consultations in addition to being the director of the new UCSD fellowship in Medical Ethics. Over the years, honors and awards include: Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Omega Alpha (president), UCSD Emergency Medicine residency Outstanding Academic Achievement, and San Diego Magazine Top Docs (2006). Dr. Snyder’s interests include the effect of hyperbaric oxygen on pathologic inflammation and reperfusion injury, respiratory diseases (he is site PI of the multicenter EMNet/MARC research collaboration) and empirical/evidence based ethics. He is the current chair of the School of Medicine’s Student Affairs Committee and is actively involved in medical student education. He enjoys reading (which usually leads to a nap), beer, what-some-may- consider-music, and has a love-hate relationship with soccer. Publications
