Kirsten Hornbeak, MD

Dr. Kirsten Hornbeak is an Emergency Medicine physician joining UCSD as the Hyperbaric and Undersea Medicine fellow. A San Diego native, her life long love of the ocean has contributed to her interest in dive emergencies and ocean related injuries. Her publications to date focus in particular on marine exposures, envenomations, and intoxications. Dr. Hornbeak earned her MD at UCSD School of Medicine and prior to completing Emergency Medicine residency at Stanford. She enjoys clinical teaching and previously worked in community bringing additional experience providing care in semi resource limited settings.
Mahmoud Sabha, MD
Undergraduate: University of California, Irvine
Medical School: St. George's University
Residency: UT Southwestern Medical Center
Dr. Sabha is a family medicine physician who joined the Undersea and Hyperbaric Fellowship with a particular interest in Wound Care. He chose UCSD not only because it is in sunny Southern California but also because is it an established program with a great reputation. He is excited to be a part of the program shaping innovative methods in wound care and the academic future of diving and hyperbaric medicine.
Leo Tanaka, MD
Undergraduate: Pomona College
Medical School: Uniformed Services University
Residency: Wright State University
Dr. Tanaka is an emergency medicine physician who is excited and honored to be a member of the UCSD Hyperbarics team. He has been travelling around the world over the last 15 years, serving the country as an experienced flight surgeon and dive medical officer. Dive medicine captivated him, leading to his arrival in San Diego. His additional interests include aerospace medicine, special operations medicine, tactical emergency medicine, and occupational medicine.
Damien Williams, MD
Undergraduate: University of California, Riverside
Medical School: Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences
Residency: Walter Reed National Military Medical Center
Dr. Damian Williams is originally from Los Angeles. He completed his undergraduate studies at UC Riverside and his medical degree at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology was completed at Walter Reed Military Medical Center. He is an incoming fellow in Undersea and Hyperbaric medicine with a strong interest in diving medicine research. In his free time he loves snorkeling, weight training, and the cinema.
