Research Residency

The UC San Diego Dermatology Program includes several faculty who have made major scientific contributions through basic and clinical research. Our program is among the largest and most successful in the nation in basic and translational clinical skin research, with areas of strength in immunology, wound repair, developmental biology, and pediatric dermatology. Inherent in our philosophy is the goal to train and advance the academic careers of our trainees, and we take pride in their future success.

Within the residency, an alternate ABD approved research track is available to residents in good standing who are interested in basic science research and who have appropriate prior research experience. This track combines 2.5 years of clinical requirements with 6 months of basic science research. Interested residents must declare their interest in the 1st year of their dermatology training.
