Benjamin Yu, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Division of Dermatology in the School of Medicine at UCSD. He received his medical training at Washington University School of Medicine and completed his Ph.D. in Immunology. Following his internship and residency in dermatology at Washington University, Dr. Yu became an instructor in the Department of Dermatology at UCSF where he was the recipient of the Howard Milstein American Skin Association Research Scholar for his work on tumor suppressors in melanoma.
In 2006, he was recruited to UCSD as an Associate Professor to begin independent investigations in skin cancer and biology. His laboratory studies how intracellular signals determine the fate and growth of normal and cancer cells, what controls these signals, and what background genes contribute to variations in disease expression. His research is supported by the NIH and the American Skin Association.
