pain is a common and difficult to treat medical problem. My research interests are to identify the
causes of and potential treatments for chronic pain. This includes basic science experiments
focusing on understanding the mechanisms of visceral pain, discovering
potential biomarkers for the development and treatment of pain, and developing
novel animal models for pain conditions that are poorly understood. These studies complement my clinical research
that is designed to develop a deeper understanding of the pathogenesis of
chronic pain conditions like complex regional pain syndrome, inflammatory bowel
disease, fibromyalgia, and to test novel therapeutic strategies for the
treatment of chronic pain, including intrathecal drug delivery as well as non-invasive
