Clinical Skills Workshop

At the beginning of your training, you will participate in a clinical skills workshop to allow you to gain more comfort with your procedural skills. The goal is to allow you to practice some techniques on task trainers prior to doing it in the operating room. The skills we will be focusing on are airway management, vascular access and regional anesthesia.

In preparation for this workshop, we would like you to read through some material and watch a few videos to have some background about the particular skills. This will allow you to focus more on actually practicing the skills during the workshop rather than using that time to just learn the background. The videos are linked through procedure consult and are accessible while on campus or if you are logged in through the VPN.  Please focus on the following topics:

  1. Airway Management
    • Mask ventilation
    • Laryngoscopy
    • Laryngeal Mask Airway (LMA) placement
  2. Vascular Access
    • Peripheral IV placement
    • Arterial line placement
    • Central venous access
  3. Regional Anesthesia
    • Lumbar epidural placement
    • Spinal anesthesia
