With the goal of breaking the traditional silos that occur within academic departments, the UC San Diego Center for Healthy Aging has provided an umbrella for bringing together faculty and trainees from varied disciplines, departments, and professional backgrounds to work collaboratively on different aspects of healthy aging.
For the first time in the history of any major university in the United States, the schools of medicine, engineering, management, and major divisions and institutes have come together to build a more age-friendly future.
We established the Healthy Aging Initiative (HAI), a cross campus initiative comprised of all four Schools (Medicine, Engineering, Pharmacy, and Management), all the four main campus Divisions (Biological, Social, and Physical Sciences, and Arts & Humanities), and four major ORUs (Qualcomm, Engineering in Medicine, Kavli, and Stein). This initiative includes innovative projects in cross-campus, multiprofessional, collaborative research; education; and partnerships with the community, industry, and state and county agencies.
