Frontiers of Proteomics Research Symposium at UC San Diego Slated for October 17
All-day Event Co-hosted by UCSD's CTRI and Biomolecular and Proteomics Mass Spectrometry Facility
August 13, 2014 – The UC San Diego Clinical and Translational Research Institute (CTRI) and the UC San Diego Biomolecular and Proteomics Mass Spectrometry Facility (BMPSF) are co-hosting the "Frontiers of Proteomics Research Symposium" on Friday, October 17, 2014, at the Telemedicine Learning Center on the UC San Diego School of Medicine campus from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The symposium will feature presentations on a range of cutting edge topics and proteomics technologies as applied to clinical research samples such as serum, urine, and human tissue, and is aimed at clinicians and researchers alike. Lectures will introduce proteomic technologies that are offered at BMPSF and how these technologies can be applied to biological samples. Pioneering proteomics researchers will highlight the current state of proteomic research and CTRI Catalyst (seed) grant recipients will present CTRI-sponsored proteomic research findings. Presenters are selected from a wide spectrum of research interests to demonstrate the applicability of proteomic approaches in various medical research areas. There will also be a presentation from the UC San Diego Biochemical Genetics and Metabolomics Laboratory that highlights a new CTRI-affiliated research laboratory and associated CTRI Catalyst Grant program.
"The CTRI is pleased and enthused to have the opportunity to work closely with Dr. Majid Ghassemian, Director of UCSD's Biomolecular and Proteomics Mass Spectrometry Facility, to organize and offer this Frontiers of Proteomics Symposium to our community of scientists and clinicians," said Professor Paul Mills, co-director of the CTRI Translational Research Technology unit and co-organizer of the symposium. "We are fortunate to have two leaders in the field as keynote speakers, Dr. John Yates, of The Scripps Research Institute, and Dr. Marjan Gucek, Director of the NIH Proteomics Core Facility."
The event, which includes a light breakfast and lunch, is free and open to everyone at UC San Diego and to all CTRI members and partners. Pre-registration is required.
