Gary S. Firestein, MD, director of CTRI, is scheduled to present the opening address, “An Introduction to Translational Medicine,” during the Translational Medicine Symposium: Engineering the Future of Medicine on Thursday, May 21, at 9:30 A.M.
The free symposium, which will feature talks, workshops and panels, is designed to educate students about opportunities available within translational medicine. It will take place at the Medical Education and Telemedicine Building, UC San Diego School of Medicine, from 9 A.M. to 2:15 P.M. The event is co-sponsored by the Biomedical Engineering Society, Department of Bioengineering, Institute of Engineering in Medicine, and CTRI at UC San Diego. Among topics are translational efforts within cardiovascular research, stem cell therapy for type 1 diabetes mellitus, and brain machine interfaces.
The symposium is geared toward undergraduate students, but open to everyone. Registration is required.
