July 28, 2014 – UC San Diego Clinical and Translational Research Institute (CTRI), in collaboration with UCSD Biochemical Genetics and Metabolomics Laboratory, is pleased to announce a new Catalyst Grant Program to support metabolomics work.
"We are delighted to jointly create the CTRI Metabolomics Catalyst Grant Program," said Professor Paul Mills, co-director of the CTRI Translational Research Technology (TRT) Division with Professor David Boyle. "We have had increased interest in metabolomics these past few years. This new affiliation with the Biochemical Genetics and Metabolomics Laboratory, and its associated catalyst grant mechanism, will provide CTRI members with the opportunity to plan and execute pilot projects, as well as provide support for more developed metabolomics projects."
As part of launching this new affiliation, CTRI invites applications from CTRI members for metabolomics-focused catalyst grant applications. CTRI envisions awarding four to five awards for up to $7,000 each. The only allowable expenses on this catalyst grant mechanism are for metabolomics services provided by the Biochemical Genetics and Metabolomics Laboratory.
Mills said that while TRT maintains its own laboratories, it affiliates with other laboratories to give CTRI members access to key additional services. And the collaboration helps CTRI realize part of its mission. "This program exemplifies the CTRI mission of developing clinical and translational research to promote and support the 'bench to bedside to community practice and back' goal of the National Institutes of Health," he said.
